Collingwood has added 344 games of experience to its side for Friday night’s blockbuster against Carlton at the MCG, with skipper Nick Maxwell and Leon Davis set to play their first games of 2011.
Maxwell returns having recovered from internal bleeding sustained in the NAB Cup semi-final against West Coast on March 5. The 27-year-old has participated in full training over the last two weeks and confirmed on Thursday that he is ready to go.
Davis, meanwhile, was best on ground in last week’s VFL 74-point win and will play his first senior game of 2011. After missing out on round one with illness, Davis was in terrific form against Frankston playing through the midfield with stints down back. The 29-year-old enjoyed a terrific NAB Cup campaign playing mainly across half back.
Running defender Simon Buckley, who has been in very good form over the first two weeks of the season after making his Collingwood debut in round one, will miss with a groin injury, while Brent Macaffer has been omitted and is an emergency.
Ruckman Cameron Wood and emerging key back Lachlan Keeffe join Macaffer as emergencies.
For Carlton, Andrew Collins (23 goals) will make his debut in navy colours after playing 25 games for Richmond (2009-10) while Michael Jamison (57 games) will make his first appearance for the year. Dennis Armfield (47 games) and Simon White (8 games) have been omitted.
