“I surround myself with geniuses”
-Kanye West-
I believe in this philosophy by one of the most successfully creative people in the world at the moment. Whether or not you like him (Kanye West) and or his music is a different story, but you cannot deny his universal success.
This is one of his key principals of success. He is not the only successful person to have a philosophy like this; in fact all successful people I have come in contact with surround themselves with other successful people. Have a look at some successful people around you and you will see for yourself.
I am not suggesting that successful people seldom associate with those who have limited success. In fact what I am suggesting is that if you desire to succeed in any area of life tap into the resource of successful people in that field.
Often people are too afraid to ask for guidance. And the truth is that they are the only ones stopping themselves. Most people who are highly successful are more than happy to give up their time to help others. However you must first be willing to ask.
Naturally people who have a desire to succeed will associate themselves with people they aspire to be like. I regularly see this at Collingwood. Travis Cloke from day one teamed up with Anthony Rocca, Scott Pendlebury followed Paul Licuria, Nick Maxwell teamed with James Clement, Dale Thomas with Nathan Buckley etc. etc. etc.Yesterday a small group of players including myself were fortunate enough to meet with some of the genius minds (Rick Handel & Ron Montaruli) behind a new revolutionary weight loss product that has taken America by storm in recent months and has just launched in Australia.
It was such a privilege to be able to ask them questions behind their success. They shared a lot of their business philosophies as we all took notes on what they had to say.
Something they both said which I noted was congruent with my opening quote is that when trying to be successful in this world you must work with people who have that same desire to succeed. Nothing is more powerful than a collective consciousness.
I personally will always try to make sure the people around me are positive. If the people you hang around seem to always drag you down then you should really re-consider whether or it is worth being around them.
Its time to create your own destiny… think about it.
Live for hope.
