This week, the three options on offer should bring back wonderful memories for Collingwood supporters.

The record breaking 178-point win over St Kilda in round 4, 1979, the 100-point romp against Fremantle in round 15, 1997, and the 102 point belting against Geelong in round 8, 2006, are the options our Facebook fans can choose from.

That’s a record - 1979
Has there ever been a more dominant performance from a Collingwood team? It was the battle of the cellar dwellers with both sides entering the match in 11th and 12th place on the ladder. But you would never have guessed that Collingwood was at the foot of the table, piling on 31 goals to three en route to its greatest ever winning margin. The Magpies led by 72 points at half time but had the Victoria Park crowd in raptures when they booted a further 18 goals in the second half to win by 179 points. The Craigs, Davis and Stewart, each kicked six while Rene Kink booted five. Captain Ray Shaw had a day out, gathering 36 possessions.

An important historical footnote: the match was Peter Daicos’ first senior game. His first kick went out of bounds on the full, but he still went on to gather 26 disposals.

Collingwood 31.21 (207)
St Kilda 3.11 (29)

Goals - Davis 6, Stewart 6, Kink 5, R.Shaw 4, D.Shaw 3, Woolnough 2
Disposals - R.Shaw 36, Picken 28, Kink 27, Morris 27, Woolnough 26, Daicos 26

Bucks goes ballistic - 1997
Collingwood went into the match at the end of its tether. After starting the season with six wins from their first eight games, the Magpies lost their next six straight leaving supporters tearing their hair out as the season slipped away. A return to the familiar surrounds of Victoria Park against an interstate team proved just the ticket. Leading by 41 points at the final change, Collingwood went on a 10-goal rampage in the final quarter to win by exactly 100 points. Fittingly, Nathan Buckley was playing in his 100th match and went on to find 43 possessions and two goals. Full forward Sav Rocca was omitted for the match but received a reprieve at the last minute. It proved a stroke of good luck as he kicked nine goals for the day.

Collingwood 25.10 (160)
Fremantle 9.6 (60)

Goals - S.Rocca 9, A.Rocca 4, Ahmat 2, Crow 2, M.Francis 2, Williams 2
Disposals - Buckley 43, Russell 29, Williams 26, Brown 22, Crosisca 21, Wright 21

Dane Swan comes of age - 2006
After two quiet years, the Magpie Army was on the charge in the early rounds of 2006 and peaked with a thumping 102 point win against Geelong in round eight. Under the MCG lights on a Saturday night, Collingwood signalled its intentions with a six-goal opening term. The Pies took it to the next level with a further six goals in each of the next two quarters to create a 94 point buffer at the last break. The eventual winning margin of 102 points was helped by a miserly defence that restricted Geelong to six goals. Dane Swan marked his rise to prominence with 26 disposals and four goals in a best on ground display. Leon Davis played one of his most complete matches, gathering 20 touches and kicking four goals including the goal of the week from the boundary line in the second quarter. Skipper Nathan Buckley was prolific with 29 possessions while Ben Johnson’s excellent season continued with 27 touches and one goal.

Collingwood 22.14 (146)
Geelong 6.8 (44)

Goals - Swan 4, Davis 4, Rocca 4, Tarrant 3, H.Shaw 2, Johnson, Licuria, O’Bree, Burns, Holland
Disposals - Buckley 29, Johnson 27, Swan 26, Licuria 25, Caracella 25
