Marcus Wagner and Nick Maxwell will succeed outgoing Collingwood GM of Football, Geoff Walsh, on an interim basis.

The highly regarded pair will share the role until a permanent successor to Walsh is appointed.

Walsh announced his imminent retirement last week. After a distinguished and storied career, he will depart on December 18.

Wagner has held several senior positions in the Collingwood football program over a 13 year career with the club. In 2017 he deputised as GM of Football in his own right before Walsh returned to the role. In 2020 he held the role of Performance and Strategy manager.

The division of responsibilities will see performance and strategy, strength and conditioning, medical teams and operations sit with Wagner.

Maxwell, the 2010 premiership captain who returned to the club as Leadership and Culture manager in late 2017, will add responsibility for coaching, analysis, player engagement and welfare to his leadership and culture portfolio.

The process of seeking Walsh’s successor has commenced. It is anticipated that an appointment will be made in the New Year.
