As our AFL team returns to training, Collingwood has announced it will expand its partnership with Nike to provide on-field and off-field apparel across the club’s teams and programs.

The announcement is an expansion of Collingwood’s existing partnership with Nike, who joined the club’s Super Netball team as apparel partner in 2020 and has been the club’s Official Footwear and Compression Partner since 2017.

The Swoosh was seen on the club’s AFL players at their first training session for 2021 today, with Nike producing all on-field and off-field apparel for the Collingwood netball, AFL, VFL, VFLW and wheelchair football teams, while continuing as the Official Footwear and Compression Partner of the AFLW program.

The partnership will also see Nike continue its Move to Zero journey toward zero carbon and zero waste, with the latest Collingwood playing guernsey using a fabric made with at least 90% recycled polyester.

The new guernsey retains its iconic design whilst the recycled knit fabric was specifically chosen for the unique needs of the players. The lightweight, breathable, and durable knit paired with a mechanical stretch allows for fluid movement, while the guernsey underwent significant testing to ensure the material would enhance both classic Collingwood design elements and athlete performance.

“Nike and Collingwood both have a strong commitment to sport, and we envisage this partnership can help empower more women and the next generation of athletes to push the boundaries of sport,” said Nike Pacific Vice President and General Manager, Ashley Reade.

Collingwood CEO Mark Anderson said the long-term commitment will help achieve the aligned ambitions of both Collingwood and Nike.

“Over the last few years, we have had the opportunity to grow and learn with Nike in their footwear and compression support of the club. Through that time, we realised we share many of the same aspirations in terms of high performance, commitment to both men’s and women’s sport and how we can use the power of our organisations to create a difference in the communities in which we operate,” Anderson said.

“That made the progression to today’s announcement a natural one for all of us at Collingwood and we thank Ash Reade and his team for their support.

“Our focus is to always partner with world-leading brands, ones that are global best practice to ensure we remain innovative and leading the way for our teams and programs. Our partnership with Nike provides a perfect example of this principle in action.”

Collingwood President Eddie McGuire added: “We spoke with Nike about not only seeking an apparel partner; we were seeking a whole-of-club partner with whom we share a common future vision. Today, that vision is becoming a reality.”

The new Collingwood guernsey is available in women’s, men’s and kids sizes from the Collingwood Store.
