Collingwood premiership forward Alan Didak has received heartening news today on the adductor muscle injury he suffered in the opening minute of Sunday’s match against Melbourne at the MCG.

Scans this morning revealed a complete tear of the muscle which, as Collingwood’s director of football, Geoff Walsh, explained will help with a full recovery in the short to medium term.

“Alan previously had a partial tear that was a consequence of the injury he suffered in the pre-season. With the muscle being completely torn away it will allow a full attachment to take place that will not require surgery,” Walsh said.

“The advice is that the healing and rehabilitation process will not keep Alan sidelined for as long as he was in the pre-season. It’s very much a short to medium term injury.”

Nick Maxwell is confident that Didak will play a key role in the remainder of the season.

Didak, 29, missed two months of pre-season and early season football due to his initial adductor injury and was appearing in just his fifth match of the 2012 campaign when his leg gave way on Sunday afternoon.

Fears of the injury being season-ending have been dispelled.

“Alan will go in to a recovery phase and then a strengthening phase, to build back up his strength and fitness, and we’re confident that he won’t be out for as long as he was last time,” Walsh said.

“These things can rarely be predicted with exact precision but we’re expecting Alan to play a significant role in the season.”
