Collingwood Vice-Captain Nick Daicos has received a special honour for his standout 2025 season at the AFL Awards held at the Centrepiece this evening.

Daicos was recognised as the AFL’s Player’s Most Valuable Player for the first time in his career.

Daicos becomes the youngest AFLPA MVP winner since Nick Riewoldt in 2004 and the fourth youngest in the prestigious award’s history.

Coming off being named in the AFL Players’ 22under22 team for the fourth time, he becomes the fourth Collingwood player to be recognised as the players’ MVP, with Darren Millane (1990), Dane Swan (2010) and Brianna Davey (2021) all previous winners.

Daicos spoke to the outstanding achievement and the honour of being voted in by his peers.

“It’s a huge honour to be awarded this year’s MVP,” he said.

“There are so many impressive footballers in the game at the moment, people who I get to play both with and against, and the list of previous winners is quite an overwhelming group to join.

“I’m very grateful for what I get to do each week, and to be recognised by my fellow players.”

Known for his elite football knowledge and versatility, he featured in all home and away games this season, averaging 30.4 disposals, 10.6 contested possessions and eight score involvements per game.

Leading the competition for total disposals with 699, the 22-year-old had a career-high 43 touches in Collingwood’s Round 19 game against Fremantle.

Collingwood’s Executive General Manager of Football Charlie Gardiner congratulated Daicos on the historic achievement.

“To be awarded the AFL Player’s Most Valuable Player award in only his fourth year in the game is an outstanding achievement that he and his family should be incredibly proud of,” Gardiner said.

“At 22 years old, Nick has already compiled a remarkable football resume, but to be recognised by his peers is a special achievement and is well deserved. His talent is obvious for everyone to see – but his work ethic, competitiveness and commitment to being the best he can be is beyond impressive.

“Nick is a tremendous ambassador and leader at our Club and continues to set the standards in our football program.”
