Collingwood’s VFL side have come away with the Easter chocolates after their convincing 45-point win over Coburg on Good Friday at Barry Plant Park.
The home side started hot early, with Coburg’s Ryan Valentine kicking two majors in the first six minutes.
It was 2025 rookie selection Jai Saxena who got the Pies rolling, kicking his first in the black and white with a thumping kick from 45 metres out.
Despite another goal from VFL recruit Brynn Teakle, the Pies struggled kicking against the wind, finishing the first term with a further six behinds and trailing by 10 points.
The second quarter brought a different tale, with the wind now working in Collingwood’s favour to allow eight majors to be kicked in the term.
Off-season recruit Jack Buller kicked two within two minutes before Teakle added his second. Second-year Pie Charlie West decided to get in on the fun, kicking two goals of his own before Buller decided he wanted a third to give Collingwood a 28-point lead at the half.
With the wind going back to Coburg’s favour, Collingwood were on the defence in the third term.
While they were unable to add anymore majors to the tally, it was draftees Sam Swadling (team-high 20 disposals at three quarter time) and Angus Anderson (18 disposals and seven clearances) who stood up to maintain a nine-point lead at the final break.
Collingwood put the burners on in the final term, with Buller, Saxena and Teakle all kicking a goal within three minutes of each other.
West found his third, while Anderson decided to get in on the fun kicking a goal from the centre square in the dying minutes, with Collingwood coming away 45-point winners over Coburg.
