He’s astute on the football field as it is, and now it’s been revealed Steele Sidebottom also has an incredible memory of what’s on the feet of his teammates and opponents.

On the latest edition of vodcast Collingwood Media's ‘Sports Galore’, fellow midfielder Adam Treloar told co-host Mark Allen of how he learned his fellow midfielder’s unique talent.

“One time he said to me ‘where are your Asics?’, Treloar begun.

“I said ‘how do you know what boot I wear?’, and he replied ‘I know everyone’s boot in the AFL’.”

With curiosity getting the better of him, Treloar put Sidebottom’s claim to the test.

First he started with by quizzing his vice-captain on the pair’s current teammates. When Sidebottom passed the test, Treloar moved onto asking about his former teammates at Greater Western Sydney.

“I kid you not, he could name every player’s boots that they wore. All my ex-Giants teammates, I was naming them and he said ‘I know what boot (brand) they wear and which ones (model) they wear.

“He didn’t miss any.”

Random anecdote aside, the main focus behind Treloar and Allen’s weekly catch-up this episode was around the concept of athletes trading places.

The pair discussed some of the biggest trades in sport, on the back of Jeremy Howe and Ben Kennedy playing against their respective former sides for the first time in last week’s Collingwood-Melbourne match.

Below are some other key moments to listen out for in episode three of ‘Sports Galore’.

Treloar’s biggest trades in sport

Gary Ablett, Lance Franklin, Gareth Bale, LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal all get a mention.

But Treloar has a little story to add surrounding a particular trade memory.

“I was going to New Zealand after the season ending and obviously Carlton hadn’t gone too well that year. There was talk that Chris Judd, the best player in the game was coming to Carlton…

“I was thinking ‘that’s a load of crap. That’s not going to happen’.”

Would you believe it?

A new segment is launched this week and Allen has a story ready to share.

“In 1994 when Ben Cousins was just 15, Fremantle offered West Coast their centre half forward Peter Mann for Cousins’ father-son rights. Think about that,” he says.

Treloar has to make a verdict on true or false. Will you make the same one?

Ben Cousins could have been a Fremantle player. Would you believe it?

The news, do we care?

When he won the Chinese Grand Prix over the weekend, Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg won his third consecutive Grand Prix.

Adam Treloar’s care factor?

“Not much… he rides motorbikes doesn’t he?”

Subway sportsman of the week

He sent his team into a Semi Final with two unbelievable goals. The performance was enough to become the inaugural Subway sportsman of the week. They’re converted supporters, but half the ‘Sports Galore’ panel can’t get his name right.

“I know who he is, I just don’t know how to pronounce it… I might jump on the bandwagon now, they’re just down the road.”

A response on the field

Before discussion turned to the biggest and most bizarre trades in sport, Allen quickly asked Treloar about how Collingwood will respond to its slow start to the season.

The response was direct and encouraging.

“Resilience is massive. We have to have it.

“When you’re not going too well, which we obviously aren’t at the moment, it’s how we bounce back. That’s what we plan to do this week.”
