A fitting 10-point triumph in SP433 and a thrilling one-point VFLW victory were the high points of a historic weekend for the Magpies over the weekend.

The main event of course was the twilight fixture at the MCG on Saturday, with more than 90,000 fans showing up to celebrate Scott Pendlebury’s record-breaking match against Waalitj Marawar (West Coast Eagles).

On the back of a huge build up, there were special scenes both pre-match and during the contest, with the run out and a memorable moment at the 10-minyte mark set to live long in the memory for all those there.

A late charge in the second quarter would see them take the lead by half time, four goals to one early in the third term from the Pies appeared to see them pulling away.

A resilient Eagles side wouldn’t go away however, arresting momentum to keep the margin at 11 points at three-quarter time.

The final quarter was tense at times, however the home side stayed strong to win for their champion, getting home by 10 points.

Pendlebury recorded 20 disposals in his much-anticipated game, while his heir apparent Nick Daicos was the star player on the ground with 34 touches and three goals.

The win was soured by injuries to key trio Jamie Elliot, skipper Darcy Moore and young forward Will Hayes.

Earlier in the day, the Club’s VFLW side took on the Sandringham Zebras and emerged with a brilliant one-point victory.

With each side kicking just three goals for the match and the Pies unable to find the big sticks in the last term, it was their defence that held firm to keep their recorded flawless from two matches so far.

Erin Mckinnon again starred in the ruck with 35 hit outs, while Zoe Wilkinson, Eva Harris and Stella Huxtable were the Pies’ goal-kickers.

Also on Saturday, the VFL side took on Werribee, going down by 31 points.

A slow start put the Pies on the back foot from the outset as they trailed by 47 points at the main break.

A brilliant second half brought back the margin considerably, however it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bees.

Jack Buller finished with three goals, while Jai Saxena, Zavier Maher, Xavier Laverty and Harvey Harrison kicked two goals each.

All of the AFL, VFL and VFLW sides take on the Western Bulldogs this week.

The two Clubs’ Wheelchair sides both played over the weekend with mixed results.

The Championship side faced a tough opponent in Hawthorn, ultimately going down by 33 points.

Michael Telban and Ben Jankovski tried their heart out all day.

The Community team fared better however, securing their first win of the season as they took on Essendon.
