The two-time All-Australian was among the Magpies’ standout performers during the side’s 28-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday, receiving six votes after his six goal, 10 mark performances against the reigning Premiers.
Following an indifferent start to the season, Cloke has hit a rich vein of form in recent weeks, booting 18 goals over the last four matches to re-establish himself as perhaps the leading power forward in the game.
Showing remarkable nerve in front of goal, Cloke’s outstanding display ensured Collingwood remained within touching distance of the Hawks in a promising sign as the home and away season enters its closing stanza.
Skipper Scott Pendlebury’s trademark poise and execution came to the fore as he earned four votes after collecting a season-high 35 disposals, including 13 contested possessions, four clearances and five inside 50s.
Pendlebury’s voting haul ensures he remains within the AFLCA’s overall top five, sitting four shy of Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray and Josh Kennedy of Sydney, who sit equal second, while three-time Champion Player of the Year Gary Ablett is a further seven ahead at the top of the leader board.
