Collingwood’s top performers
40. Paul Seedsman
Statistics: 25 kicks, 6 handballs, 31 disposals, 2 clearances, 14 inside 50s.
Twenty-three-year-old Seedsman fulfilled a childhood dream by running out for the Magpies on ANZAC Day. His day got even better as the match went on. The defender-turned midfielder had 31 disposals, 14 inside 50s and an impressive 60 metre goal in the third quarter. All of this was enough to see Seedsman take out the ANZAC Day medal for the best performer on the ground in the annual clash. He received maximum votes from the three judges and joined Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury as current Magpies to win the award.
45. Jack Frost
Statistics: 4 kicks, 4 handballs, 8 disposals, 1 marks, 6 contested possessions.
Frost’s position as Collingwood’s ever-reliable fullback was once again enhanced with his smothering of promising Essendon forward Joe Daniher. Daniher struggled to get involved in the game as Frost constantly cut off his supply of the football. The 23-year-old had a team high nine one-percenters and six of his eight disposals were contested.
16. Nathan Brown
Statistics: 6 kicks, 4 handballs, 10 disposals, 4 tackles, 3 rebound 50s.
Brown’s 97th career game was arguably his best this season. Combining with Frost in defence, Brown was crucial in keeping Essendon to just six goals for the match. Brown’s matchup Jake Carlisle was barely sighted on the biggest occasion of the home and away season. Brown had four more disposals than the Essendon forward and kept Carlisle goalless.
25. Jack Crisp
Statistics: 13 kicks, 8 handballs, 21 disposals, 4 tackles, 5 inside 50s, 4 clearances.
The valuable addition of Jack Crisp to the Collingwood midfield was on show once again on ANZAC Day. Tasks rarely come bigger than standing aside Essendon champion Jobe Watson, yet Crisp was given this role in just his fourth game for the Magpies. He kept Watson to just 11 disposals in the first half before turning his attention to the in-form Dyson Heppell.
10. Scott Pendlebury
Statistics: 17 kicks, 13 handballs, 30 disposals, 15 contested possessions, 5 inside 50s.
Scott Pendlebury loves ANZAC Day. Just once in the last five years has the Collingwood captain had under 30 possessions against the Bombers on April 25 (29 on ANZAC Day 2013). This weekend was no exception as the midfielder collected 30 touches. As all leaders should, the skipper stood up when it counted. 13 of his possessions came in the final quarter when the game was on the line.
