Collingwood's Dane Swan, coach Mick Malthouse and the 2010 premiership team are all nominated for the Sports Performer Awards in their respective categories.
The fourth annual Sports Performer Awards, presented by The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald, aim to be one of the most prestigious prizes in Australian sport - recognising the very best performers from the previous 12 months. Unlike other major awards, the Sports Performer of the Year Awards are voted for by Australia’s passionate sporting public.
The awards consist of five categories, three which the Magpies are nominated for, and the winners will be announced at a special function to be held at Crown Casino on Tuesday, 30 November, 2010.
Swan is up against 11 other nominees including Formula One driver Mark Webber, Olympic gold medallist in snowboarding Torah Bright and Sydney Roosters' Todd Carney. If Swan can win the popular vote he will take home the $50,000 prize.
The coaching category provides stiff competition for Malthouse with racing's first lady Gai Waterhouse and Wayne Bennett, head coach of premiership rugby league side St. George Illawarra Dragons, all in the mix.
Collingwood's premiership feat will be pitted against similar all-conquering performances including Queensland State of Origin's series sweep of New South Wales and St. George Illawarra's premiership, the first in 31 years.
