Adam Treloar was among Collingwood's best players

The members of Collingwood's AFL list who were not selected for Friday night's clash with the Giants (minus Josh Thomas, who is the carryover emergency in Sydney) headed to the Whitten Oval on Friday morning for a reserves scratch match against the Western Bulldogs.

Under the guidance of head development coach Hayden Skipworth, the Pies had the better of the game, although scores were not kept given it was essentially a session of match simulation.

Skipworth spoke to collingwoodfc.com.au after the match.

"The boys were good," Skipworth said. "We had a really good hit-out. No injuries and the majority of the guys played really well.

“We’ve had three decent hit-outs. We’ve got plenty of players in form, so it’s going as well as it possibly could be.

"We have a lot of guys to pick from at the moment, which is a great thing for the club, and we've seen some great improvement from our younger players."

Here are Skipworth's thoughts on Collingwood's best players.

Will Kelly
He played as a key forward all day and was one of our better players. It’s three weeks in a row now he’s been among our better players. He’s getting better each week and he’s putting a good block of form together. His workrate was outstanding and he’s starting to get some really good reward for his hard work.

Darcy Cameron
Came back from the senior team and played key forward and back-up ruck. He started really well and had a really good game. He had a lot of shots at goal. Unfortunately he missed a few, but his aerial work was really good and he competed really well in the ruck for us.

Adam Treloar
His leadership was super throughout the game, helping the younger mids. And he played really well. His clearance stuff was good again and he found plenty of the ball.

Lynden Dunn
Showed plenty of leadership down back. His voice and communication throughout the game really sets the scene for the group. His engagement and ability to help the younger players has been outstanding. His aerial stuff has been really good. He hasn’t really lost a one-on-one. He’s coming off his man and helping out the smaller defenders in the air and he’s got a really good block of form together now.

Matt Scharenberg
Was really good in the backline for the whole game. His ball-use coming out of the back half is really good. He’s add some creative flair to his game and he’s really starting to open up the game for us with some of his ball-use, particularly through the corridor.

Max Lynch
Went well again in the ruck. That’s three good games for him now. His ruck craft has been really good and his defensive transition to help the backline out has been outstanding. He’s stringing some really good games together.

Jack Madgen
Came back to our team after being the carryover emergency for the AFL side last week and brought with him a sensational attitude. Played three quarters in the backline as a third tall and then spent a quarter as an inside mid. He was really sound defensively. He’s been looking to add some more offence to his game and he really did that today.

Brayden Sier
He was really good, particularly when it came to clearance numbers. Him and Max Lynch have formed a great relationship around the stoppages, the centre bounces in particular. Spent a bit of time forward but had most of his impact in the midfield.
