The 22-year-old’s stellar season reached another highpoint when he put in a virtuoso performance against the Swans. Beams’ night included 34 possessions, five tackles and three goals, ensuring he was voted best afield Nathan Buckley and John Longmire.
Beams has now polled votes from the coaches in 10 matches this season including four of his last five and is now ranked third on the competition leader board with 83 votes.
He sits 10 votes behind Richmond star Trent Cotchin and only five behind Essendon captain Jobe Watson.
The other Collingwood players to poll on Saturday night include Ben Reid, who is hitting his straps at the right time of the year after an injury plagued start to the season. The 2011 All-Australian received six votes for his 20 disposals and six marks at centre half back - the second time in three weeks that he has featured among the votes.
Darren Jolly’s gutsy 42 hitouts and 11 disposals earned him two votes, backing up from his eight against St Kilda. Scott Pendlebury also took home two after collecting 29 touches and six hitouts, leaving him in eighth place on the overall leader board on 73 votes.
Captain Nick Maxwell polled one vote for his efforts in defence. Two Swans, Josh Kennedy (eight votes) and Ryan O’Keefe (one vote), were the only members of the home side to figure.
