Brad Scott was the opposition coach for the 2008 season. In 2009 his role has changed to focus on working with the midfield group.
Collingwood List Assessment: Numbers 21-30
21. Sharrod Wellingham: The 20-year-old played 12 games in his first season of league footy and averaged 14 disposals and three tackles.
Brad Scott says: Sharrod came in and played some tagging roles for us in the midfield. The highlight of his year was his game on Gary Ablett. Sharrod held Ablett really well in our 86 point win. I am really looking forward to him playing in the midfield next year.
22. Rhyce Shaw: Shaw was traded to the Sydney Swans at the end of the season after playing 94 games for the Magpies. He played 20 games this year and averaged 21 disposals and seven marks.
It is disappointing to see Rhyce go but a fresh start for him is exactly what he needs.
23. Anthony Rocca: The 238 game veteran had his 2008 season cut short after suffering a broken foot in round 13. He started the year by kicking six goals against Fremantle and will be a massive inclusion for 2009.
It was a very frustrating year for Anthony with his ankle. But with a full preseason under his belt we expect him to be back at his best. Opposition clubs fear him more than anyone.
24. Tarkyn Lockyer: Lockyer played every game this season for Collingwood and finished the year ranked fourth at the club in total disposals (437).
It was another really consistent year from Tarkyn. He was ever-reliable and played a variety of roles for us. We expect more of the same from Tarkyn next year.
25. Josh Fraser: Fraser played 18 games and averaged five marks and led the club in hit outs (274).
When Josh was fit and healthy, he played some of his best footy. His four goals against North Melbourne was a highlight as well as his selection to the state team. We are hoping to get him back to full strength because at his best there are not many mobile ruckmen in the competition.
26. Ben Johnson: Johnson played 16 consecutive games before he was omitted after round 17 for the remainder of the season. He averaged 17 disposals and five marks.
It was a difficult year for Johnson this season. I am really looking forward to him bouncing back next year. I know he is going to launch himself into the biggest preseason he has ever had. We are looking for him to play as a small defender and midfielder.
27. John McCarthy: The young midfielder was an unexpected call-up in round 19 and played the next five games. He is considered to be a promising player who gained valuable finals experience last season.
It was a fantastic year for John. We are really impressed by the way he has attacked his first year in the AFL and was rewarded with some games at the end of the year. We are hoping he will progress next year and play a midfield role for us.
28. Danny Stanley: Stanley managed two games this season taking his career total to four. He played most of the season in the VFL, building up his match fitness and will be a chance to see regular season action next year.
We are hoping he will progress and fill the void left by Scott Burns which are enormous shoes to fill. Danny has the capabilities playing as an in and under player and is hard at the footy. He will get an opportunity early on in the NAB Cup.
29. Ryan Cook: A young forward/midfielder who played nine games in 2008. He averaged 14 disposals and four marks.
A very solid year from Cook. He has continually improved since he arrived at the club. He played some good tagging roles for us and we will expect him to do the same for us next year.
30. Toby Thoolen: A consistent performer in the VFL, Thoolen was used mainly as a tall defender.
Toby is a really athletic player. A little bit raw still at this stage but hopefully will develop for a key position player for us.
