In a late flurry of activity, Collingwood has made two trades acquiring Anthony Corrie from Brisbane for pick 93 and trading Rhyce Shaw to Sydney for pick 46 (Sydney also receive pick 61).
National recruiting manager, Derek Hine, was at Telstra Dome overseeing the two trades.
Hine spoke to Collingwoodfc.com.au directly after the AFL Trade Week closed.
“We ended the week with two goals in mind,” Hine said.
“To keep our options open and at the same time to strengthen our position in the draft, which is perceived to be the last uncompromised draft in a very long time.
“We have been able to get further into the third round so we will have two selections in the third round and one in the second round and one in the first.”
Corrie is an exciting new prospect for the Magpie's and is considered to be the steal of the draft.
“We have been working on Anthony now for a good week.
“His name was mentioned in patches on Monday and when we were looking at if Rhyce was to go out, who else could come in and give us a similar type of player but also give us a little bit more scope and I think Anthony does that.
“Anthony comes in, in terms of us, with a great deal of confidence that we can improve him quite substantially. He is at a very young age and he is coming off a knee reconstruction two years ago now so that gives him more scope in terms of his body.”
Hine also acknowledged the move of Shaw to Sydney as a positive one for both clubs.
“The last two years he (Shaw) has indicated that he would like to test the waters elsewhere and we were really mindful of that going into the trading period.”
