Collingwood premiership ruckman Darren Jolly has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his injured left knee.

The 29-year-old had surgery on Thursday, and Collingwood general manager of football Geoff Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au that Jolly will spend a couple of weeks recovering.

"Darren will need about 14 days to recover from the surgery, at which time he'll be assessed by our medical staff," Walsh said.

"It was a fairly basic clean out and nothing too major, so we don't expect him to be sidelined for an extended period."

The Magpies have a bye after their clash with the Bulldogs on Sunday at the MCG, then take on Geelong in a Friday night blockbuster on May 13.

Jolly, who was traded to Collingwood from Sydney in exchange for picks 14 and 46 at the end of 2009, played 142 consecutive AFL matches before missing this year’s round four win over Richmond with the same problem that resulted in surgery.

He returned to the side for last week’s ANZAC Day game and was one of Collingwood’s best in the victory over the Bombers.

Jolly, who began his career with Melbourne in 2001 before heading to Sydney where he played in the Swans' 2005 premiership, has played 196 matches. He played every game for the Magpies in 2010.

He has been replaced in this week’s team by emerging big man Cameron Wood.
