Collingwood is throwing it back to the 90’s, with the Club to revive its iconic ‘Shield’ guernsey for the Round 19 Retro Round clash against Carlton.
The Rocca brothers, Anthony and Sav, who famously wore the guernsey back in their playing days, were on hand to re-launch the iconic guernsey and reminisce on their time at the Pies.
Worn by the Club throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, the predominantly black kit which features white stripes of differing width and the famous shield on the back that encases each player’s number, was first worn as an away guernsey in 1998.
The original version of the ‘Shield’ guernsey featured sponsors Spicers Paper on the front and Primus on the back, with the 2026 Nike edition featuring the ‘90s AFL logo and Emirates on the chest, with KFC and Emirates on the back.
Worn by stars including Nathan Buckley, Gavin Brown and the Rocca brothers, current-day stars Nick Daicos, Scott Pendlebury and Jordan De Goey will now leave their mark in the jumper.
The original launch of the jumper came at a time the AFL was asking clubs to create ‘clash’ versions of their home kit, with this the Pies’ spin on their traditional black and white stripes.
The guernsey reflects a historic time for the Club, with the Magpie’s wearing it during the Club’s final days at Victoria Park and also in the fateful 1999 Millenium Game of New Years Eve, where Carlton obliterated Collingwood to the tune of 88 points.
In 2026, the Pies will get their shot at revenge in the guernsey, donning it for their Round 19 clash against the Blues.
