Collingwood’s VFLW side has progressed through to the semi-finals after claiming a 15-point win over the Southern Saints in Saturday’s qualifying final at Victoria Park.

The low scoring affair saw both sides take their time to settle into the windy conditions, providing an even contest and a scoreless first term.

The Pies’ best asset was its strong defence, applying solid consistent pressure throughout the four quarters.

But at times the home side struggled upon entry into their forward 50 with rushed decision-making and poor ball movement.

Jaimee Lambert was a standout in her 50th VFLW outing registering all three of the Pies’ majors that would see them go on to claim victory, 3.3 (21) to 1.0 (6).

Lambert found her soccering all three goals from within the goal square. But she was happy to get her team on the board, especially in her milestone game.

“I got lucky, the ball fell in my lap at times,” Lambert laughed telling collingwoodfc.com.au.

“But to do so in my 50th game and celebrate with my roommate, Soph Casey was something special.”

The 26-year-old admitted her team was tested in difficult conditions but she was happy they could pull through and record their first finals victory.

“It was awesome to get the win in trying conditions with the wind being really strong. We made the most of what we could and tried to switch our angles,” Lambert said.

Kate McCarthy managed the Saints’ first and only goal early in the second. While the Saints were strong out of the stoppages, they struggled to capitalise in front of goal for the remainder of the game.

Saints’ midfielder, Tilly Lucas-Rodd had a great presence around the ball and was speedy out of the pack, tallying 24 disposals. Olivia Vesely was also strong through the Saints’ forward line gathering 21 disposals and 15 kicks.

Magpie defender, Stacey Livingstone was powerful down back providing a tight hold on the opposition and managing to take several crucial intercept marks.

Brittany Bonnici had major impact, collecting 31 disposals and 24 kicks alongside Chloe Molloy who also ran riot with 19 disposals.

The Pies will now face the Western Bulldogs in a semi final next weekend.
